Resorts have their own private islands – Most resorts are located on private islands. Unless you are planning a trip to the mainland or another island, you will be around familiar faces for the entire duration of your stay. There are no options for entertainment, food and drink outside the resort and everything you need can be found within the island. It would be really great if tourists need to plan ahead.

Currency – USD is accepted throughout Maldives, and tourists can manage without converting to Rufiyaa, the local currency. The current conversion rate is 1 USD = 15.45 Rufiyaa. Carry cash at all times as ATMs are not available on all islands. Some resorts may accept payments made via credit or debit cards.

A Maldives trip is not very expensive if you plan right – Although you will not find rooms at $5 per night like Thailand or any other South Asian country, the prices are decent if you book maldives all inclusive deals well in advance. While standard rooms at resorts start at $200 for two people, it would be $450 for two including breakfast at a luxurious overwater bungalow that the Maldives is famous for. If you want to enjoy the comforts at a fraction of the price, look for guest houses and budget hotels. The prices start at $100 per day.

Alcohol is only allowed on private islands – The Maldives being a Muslim nation, alcohol consumption is banned except on private islands owned by the resorts. If you are staying on the mainland, you will have to remain sober. However, there are a few ingenious solutions to the problem. For example, Maafushi island has an offshore boat that serves alcohol, and offers complimentary transfer for tourists.

Dressing restrictions apply on beaches – Except for a few “bikini zones” it is illegal to stay exposed in public. Women must wear a long dress and scarf covering the shoulders while walking down to the bikini beach. This rule does not apply on private islands. If you are looking for maldives family holiday packages, it is better to book yourself a resort.
